About Us

WAKUWORK Foundation Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit organization duly registered under the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2014. It aims to provide professional job opportunities in order to create a society where everyone can choose their future and are motivated to achieve it.

The desire to help Cebu City was borne out of the experience of WAKUWORK Founder, Takako Yamada, a young Japanese social entrepreneur who did her immersion in the Philippines during her university years. She saw the condition of the city’s urban poor communities, particularly in Barangay Lorega San Miguel. In 2009, she established WAKUWORK English Inc., a social enterprise that provides online English courses to Japanese students from around 50 companies and 4 universities. Part of WAKUWORK’s strategy is to employ underprivileged youth while teaching them with life skills so that they will be capacitated to go to college.

WAKUWORK has helped close to fifty (50) underprivileged Cebuano youth since establishment. Today, a significant number of its youth grantees are already employed in various local companies or are finishing college.
